The Inkwell Awards introduce the Inker Database and Dave Simons tribute page
The Inkwell Awards proudly present the first online Inker Database at their website as yet another
comprehensive resource for the comic book community
(www.inkwellawards.com/database.html). In the planning stages since the formation of the non-profit charity organization and after months of work, it was debuted this week to the public and the committee intends to expand the info over time as additional data is submitted by artists and fans. "I want to thank committee member and writer Daniel Best for doing much of the legwork and ink artist Jeremy Freeman for his invaluable assistance; it'll be an ongoing work in progress for us but this wouldn't have been made a reality in the first place without their generous time and efforts" said Inkwell Awards director Bob Almond.
Also this week the organization produced a Dave Simons tribute page, created in honor of the recently-deceased member and friend (www.inkwellawards.com/simons.html). It highlights the life and career of the veteran artist and also shares information about the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund created by the group in his name for students in need at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Bob said "I think Dave would have been humbled to see his own page at the site but it felt right to us. Danny did a fine job composing it, not surprising as they were close. This will help to ensure that Dave's legacy lives on!".
The Inkwell Awards (www.inkwellawards.com) is a non-profit charity organization whose mission is to inform about the often-misunderstood craft of comic book inking and annually recognize and award the ink artists and their work. Now entering their third year, the organization is overseen by a number of industry professionals such as founder & director Bob Almond, Daniel Best, Jimmy Tournas, Bob Shaw, Nathan Massengill and fully-supported by ambassadors DC editor Mike Marts and artists Adam Hughes and Ethan Van Sciver, all of whom make up the Inkwell Awards committee. They sponsor the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art and host the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award.
