Some of you who attended shows with me over the years, especially early on, may've met Andy through me. But most may never have heard of him. He was my first ink assistant back in '94 for a year and subsequently spent about 10 years trying to break into this wacky biz we work in without success as a penciler. (Jimmy, you probably met him as you're also local to us). But he did get to work behind the scenes with Michael Oeming at one point doing layouts on a Vertigo project and an issue of a small press book. Finally a couple of years ago he got in through professional sculpting and worked with the likes of Oeming & Bendis' on their Powers characters like Walker and Retrogirl as well as Dynamic Forces and others. You can check out his work at his site: www.andrew3d.com/ and he was represented by Bob Shaw at Serendipity Art Sales. Maybe Bob can remember his other clients. Andy passed away yesterday after a 7 month battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife called me earlier tonight and I've been calling mutual friends about the news. We were never really tight buds but I did my best to help him in his artistic efforts, shared his many disappointments as well as his notable successes and I was happy to call him a friend. Just remember during the holiday weekend for those of you in the USA to remember and cherish all you have to be thankful for. Sorry to hear of your Loss Bob. And sorry to only be reading this now. My heart goes out to His family as well, especially this close to Christmas and all.
