Having researched the man I'd say that Jim Mooney would fall into the #2 catagory easily. He pneicled just as many pages as he inked, and inked himself almost exclusively from the 1940s through to the late 1960s. I bow before your vast Mooney knowledge, inker-san. Norm Breyfogle would be in the #2 section as well. He has inked other artists (notably Dave thingyrum and Jim Balent at DC, Alan Weiss and Trevor Von Eeden at AFS) and inks himself mainly these days. Noted. Bob Shaw: you need to make another 'profanity' adjustment, please. Did you know that Mike Esposito started out as a penciler and only took up inking as a way to make more money because he was (self-admittedly) lazy? Wasn't Frank Giacoia the same way? I believe I'd read that. Thanks Danny, and Michael and Bob before him BTW, does anyone have answers/ confirmation to the names I have posted with a question mark in message one regarding what category they fall into? Best, Bob Almond

From a post on the Inkwell mailing list: Eric Layton Rick Ketcham Robert Atkins I presume they are all group#1. ~B~ I think Robert Atkins more properly belongs in Group #2. He does have several inking credits, especially on Forgotten Realms, but he's doing quite a bit on penciling (including, I think, all the character designs) on IDW's new G.I. Joe books. Robert has also done a couple of very nice pencil commissions for me. Two more adds to Group #1: James Taylor, who worked on a couple of books for Penny-Farthing Press. Peter Repovski, who inked Fused (over Josh Medors) for Dark Horse.

Cool additions, gang! I don't know Repovski or Fridolfs but with your vast comic art collections I have no doubt that you do. Thanks!

Thought of three more #1's...
Robert Jones (tons of credits, including The Ray for DC, Stormwatch for Image, Star Wars for Dark Horse, and The Punisher and Warlock for Marvel; a lot of projects for Avatar in recent years, mostly over Marat Mychaels's pencils)
Jeremy Colwell (The Black Coat, Project Eon)
Robert Lewis (inked a lot of Darryl Banks's early work for Millennium)
