Hi all and welcome!
Back when we were still using the write in ballot format we were planning to do an inker database as a resource to tap at the site which could also be used as reference for voters to come up with nominees. We didn't have time to do this initially so we used the database search engines instead and started planning to set a database up for 2009. But then we decided to use the more traditional idea of multiple community sources voting on nominees who we'd subsequently post on the ballot. This made the database a moot point functionally but it freed us up which was good since we couldn't seem to find the time to devote to it. But that's where this forum idea proposed by both Bob Shaw and Jimmy Tournas came into the mix. Now I could simply start a thread here that would allow members to add to an ongoing list. The other members would catch most errors and eventually the names would be posted somewhere at the site and it'd be a work in progress but a fine resource for all to refer to. You can simply add one creator but also feel free to go for broke and run down several names.
Please place the names into three lists:
#1-full-time inkers, having inked more pages than pencilled
#2-occasionally they ink themselves or others but most of their career output is pencil work
#3-they almost exclusively ink their own pencil work only
I'll give my names to illustrate examples. I'll describe them after their names but posters won't need to do that themselves.
#1- Joe Rubenstein (he has occasionally penciled like in the old Marvel handbook entries, but he's almost exclusively an inker)
#2-Paul Ryan (among his earlier work was some inking over John Byrne on Avengers West Coast and he often inks his own covers and scattered art, but he's penciled much more assignments than inked)
#3- Adam Hughes, Dave Stevens, Craig Rousseau, Mike Mignola, Bernie Wrightson, Charles Vess (there are the rare examples, usually early on, where these guys inked others or someone else inked their pencil work, but, as I said, rarely)
Some guys are tough when considering their career output...Wally Wood and Al Williamson for example. Some may know their stats well-enough to categorize them....some others may ride the line and sit in one category or another until someone knows better.
Feel free to add to the fun and adventure!
Thanks, Inkwellers!
