The following was forwarded to me from Steven Morger, promoter of the Super-Con and friend and supporter of the Inkwell Awards since last year...you can see
examples from their exhibition at the CAF gallery link below and they are fun and incredible to
behold:
Bob, as you know, Super-Con has for the past two years conducted an inking panel where we have various inkers (and painters too) finish blue line pencils from the same penciller. In 2007, we had pencils from Frank Cho. Last year it was expanded to include pencils by Adam Hughes, Michael Golden and Ernie Chan. In 2009, we will again be proceeding with the inking exhibition. This year's pencil contributors are Bill Morrison, Alex Ross, Mark Schultz and Jack Kirby. Copies of the pencils as well as the first few finished pieces can be found at www.comicartfans.com under "Super-Con" as the last name ("San Jose" as the first name).
The primary purpose of the inking panel is to demonstrate to the fans how much inkers (and painters too) add to the finished art process. A comparison of the finished product from, for example, Alex Nino to the same piece by Ernie Chan is an eye opener.
The purpose of this e-mail is to provide notice of the inking exhibition and to see if you are aware of any other professional artists who might be interested in participating. The finished pieces will be displayed on Super-Con's Comicartfans gallery at www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=29109 and any contributed pieces will be auctioned at Super-Con for the benefit of the show. It is also my hope to compile an ashcan of many of the finished pieces with the net proceeds benefitting the Inkwell Awards.
If anyone is interested in participating, I can be contacted at smorger@comcast.net. I have copies of the pencils available digitally as well as as blue lines on bristol board.
Super-Con will be held on May 16 and 17, 2009, in San Jose, California. The website can be found at www.super-con.com.
Best, Steve Morger.
